Blog 40

Today I talked to a couple of people over the phone with two of my best friends, who live back at home in eastern Pennsylvania.  I came to the realization that these two people will probably be lifelong friends to me.  I’ve been in college for a couple years now, and I’ve been at a college farther than 2.5 hours away for about a month and a half now, and it’s amazing how we always stay in touch, of course it’s pretty much impossible to get away from people in today’s time because of all the social technology, such as Facebook, e-mail, texting, cell phones, webcam, etc.  The only thing you can’t do when you are away from somebody now, is make physical interaction.  When our parents were in college, they could only write letters, or use a land line.  They could actually get away if they wanted to.  This technology is the exact reason why I wasn’t afraid to go far away to college, number one because I knew I would make a lot of new friends here, and number two, I can always stay in touch if I wanted to.  I really wasn’t worried about missing high school friends, because the ones that you really want to always stay in touch with, you do stay in touch with.  Other friends, it’s no big deal, but one day if you would like to see what they are up to, just go on Facebook and write on their wall.  It’s as simple as that.  I mean yea, I’m looking forward to going home and actually seeing some of my friends in person, but I can definitely wait till December, which will be the first time that I go home this school year.  For now, I’ll enjoy my time at The Ohio State University!

  1. I totally agree! With Skype, I talk to friends who are 5-6 hours away! I know we have it so much better than our parents, but then sometimes I wonder if it was easier to make that break from home back then because you didn't constantly have all of the constant contact.
